Three teens charged with 20 car burglaries
SPRING HILL -- A 19-year-old and two 16-year-olds were arrested Saturday and charged with stealing cigarettes from three cars and trying to burglarize 17 other vehicles near Holiday Drive, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Matthew Phelps, 19, of 7991 Spruce St. was charged with three counts of burglary of a vehicle and attempting to break into 17 others, according to the Sheriff's Office. Phelps was being held in lieu of $49,000 bond Sunday.
Two 16-year-olds, who are not being named because of their age, also were charged. They were released from jail Saturday.
Authorities said it appeared the three were trying to obtain cigarettes and only stole from unlocked cars.
Motorist-aid call boxes have been installed along the Suncoast Parkway from the Hillsborough-Pasco county line to the vicinity of State Road 50 in Hernando County.
The radio-based voice and data call box system is designed to provide assistance to motorists for police and medical emergencies or mechanical problems. The Florida Highway Patrol handles all call box dispatch services.
Eventually, call boxes will be installed from SR 50 north to U.S. 98.
In related parkway news, workers will close the northbound exit ramp at the Pasco-Hernando County line from 1 to 3 p.m. today for paving. Motorists may exit at State Road 52 in Pasco County or Spring Hill Drive in Hernando during that time.
SPRING HILL -- The Hernando County Republican Club Party and the Hernando County Young Republicans will host a fundraiser thrift sale from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Linden Commons Plaza on Spring Hill Drive, just east of Linden Drive.
NOBLETON -- The Ladies Aid of Nobleton Community Church will serve a spaghetti luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 3 in Nobleton Community Center, at Edgewater Avenue and Sentinel Street. There will also be a sale of home-made baked goodies.
The Friendship Quilters will have their hand-made, queen-size quilt on display; tickets to win the quilt are $5 for one or $10 for three. The drawing will be at 2 p.m. The winner does not have to be present.
