Injuries plague five QBs
Five quarterbacks missed parts of Sunday's games with injuries, including both starters in the Chiefs' victory over the Rams.
Rams quarterback Kurt Warner missed the second half after breaking the little finger on his right hand.
The NFL and Super Bowl MVP was injured on a fumbled snap at the Kansas City 8 near the end of the first half. He also jammed his non-throwing left hand in the second quarter.
The Rams said Warner should be out 4-6 weeks. Trent Green took over.
Chiefs quarterback Elvis Grbac injured his right elbow early in the fourth quarter when he was hit by Leonard Little and D'Marco Farr. He was down for several minutes and left for the locker room favoring the arm. His status was unknown.
Bears quarterback Cade McNown left the game against Philadelphia after separating his throwing shoulder in the second quarter and did not return. He is scheduled to be reevaluated today.
Bengals quarterback Akili Smith was woozy and numb after banging his head on the ground during a sack, forcing him to miss the second half against Denver.
"I'm all right," Smith said. "I should have thrown the ball away."
The Seahawks' Brock Huard suffered a concussion in the first half against Oakland and was replaced by Jon Kitna, who also had a concussion but played through it.
GEORGE DOWN: Titans running back Eddie George sprained a ligament in his right knee against the Ravens and left after one rushing attempt.
George sprained the medial collateral ligament and is questionable for Sunday's game against Washington, coach Jeff Fisher said. He is scheduled for an MRI exam today to determine the extent of the damage.
TUGGLE OUT: Falcons linebacker Jessie Tuggle, the NFL's leading active tackler, probably will be out at least a month after injuring his left knee against New Orleans. Tuggle, 35, has missed two games in his 14-year career because of injuries. Both came last season after he strained a quadriceps.
RAMS REHIRE CARSON: St. Louis lured former defensive coordinator Bud Carson out of retirement to help its struggling unit. The announcement was timely as the Rams lost 54-34 to the Chiefs.
FLUTIE FLAKES SURGE: Doug Flutie's return as the Bills' starting quarterback has resulted in the return of Flutie Flakes as well. "We've seen sales of Flutie Flakes double since (the Oct. 15) game," Stefanie Zakowicz, corporate spokeswoman for Tops Markets, told the Buffalo News.
CARRUTH TRIAL: Jury selection begins today in Charlotte, N.C., for former Panthers receiver Rae Carruth, charged with first-degree murder along with three other men in the shooting death of pregnant girlfriend Cherica Adams.
COLTS: Linebacker Rob Morris ruptured a patellar tendon in his right knee during the third quarter against New England. Morris, taken off on a golf cart, might miss the rest of the season.
EAGLES: NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, at Veterans Stadium for a charity event, expressed surprise that a deal for a new stadium had not been completed. "The package that (owner) Jeffrey Lurie has put forward is the strongest and best offer that any owner ever has," Tagliabue said. He said other owners are concerned about the deal, which says the team will handle construction costs of the stadium as long as the city provides the land and makes it ready for construction.
RAVENS: Defensive tackle Tony Siragusa bruised his spinal cord against Tennessee but returned after a quick visit to the hospital.
MARSHALL FAULK: Rams RB, injured left shoulder, uncertain for Sunday.
EDDIE GEORGE: Titans RB, sprained right knee, did not return.
ELVIS GRBAC: Chiefs QB, injured right elbow, did not return.
BROCK HUARD: Seahawks QB, concussion, did not return.
ELLIS JOHNSON: Colts DT, sprained right knee, status unknown.
JON KITNA: Seahawks QB, concussion, continued to play.
CADE McNOWN: Bears QB, separated throwing shoulder, did not return.
ROB MORRIS: Colts LB, torn tendon in right knee, possibly out for season.
TREVOR PRYCE: Broncos DT, strained right knee, did not return.
TONY SIRAGUSA: Ravens DT, bruised spinal cord, returned in second quarter.
AKILI SMITH: Bengals QB, dizziness, did not return.
KURT WARNER: Rams QB, broken right little finger, out 4-6 weeks.
