© St. Petersburg Times, Man jailed after firing at ground near victim's headCRYSTAL RIVER -- A man was arrested early Sunday after firing his gun in front of a Crystal River police officer. Kenneth Austin Williams, 46, of Crystal River is being held at the Citrus County jail on one count of aggravated assault and one count of discharging a firearm in public. At 12:31 a.m. Sunday, Cpl. Sue Webb responded to a call of a man being threatened with a handgun. She saw Williams pointing a gun at the head of a man lying on the ground, according to an arrest report. Webb unholstered her gun and ordered Williams to drop his weapon. Williams looked up, stepped to the right of the victim and fired at the ground, the report said. After taking a couple of more steps, Williams dropped his weapon and got down on the ground to be handcuffed, the report said. He is being held in lieu of $7,000 bail. Inverness' Fall Festival to have costume contestINVERNESS -- The city's annual Fall Festival will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at City Hall Park in downtown. Events include a costume contest in several age groups: 2 and younger, 3 to 5, each grade from kindergarten to fifth grade and middle school. All entries will receive participation ribbons with first place prizes awarded in each division. Registration will be on the day of the event from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Costume contest begins at 4:30. Other activities include games and refreshments. Children must be accompanied by parents. Call 726-3913.
