Daily fishing report

Without a little help from our friends, 14-year-old Bryan Crisp couldn't have caught a 34-pound kingfish Saturday.

Though leading after the first day of a two-day SKA Tournament, the crew of the LaPerla helped us untangle lines. Another angler allowed one of us to hop on his boat to determine which way to unwrap our line.

Throwing your anchor buoy and staying on top of a hooked smoker can prevent chaos, but when fishing in a crowd, it's sometimes inevitable. When obstacles arise, don't panic. Twenty-pound test can be resilient.

Putting your reel in free spool and thumbing the line will take the pressure off until you work out a solution. Should your fish get around a crab trap line, pull up to the buoy and figure which way to go. Cutting the crab trap line is not an option.

Often, raising the buoy and flipping it off your line will allow you to proceed.

Especially now, with tournaments scheduled for nearly every weekend, cooperation among anglers goes a long way when you need the favor returned.
