A leader in the Pinellas medical community, Dr. Overbey served on the staffs of three hospitals.

ST. PETERSBURG -- Dr. David T. Overbey Jr., a retired physician who played leadership roles in several hospitals and medical organizations, has died at 81.
Dr. Overbey, a past president of the Pinellas County Medical Association, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at home after a long illness.
The Oneonta, Ala., native, a specialist in internal medicine, practiced for more than 37 years after moving here in 1954 from New Orleans.
A past president of the local chapter of the American Lung Association, he also led the Florida Physicians Association and the staff at St. Petersburg General Hospital.
He belonged to the Society of Internal Medicine and the American and Florida Medical associations. He served on the staffs of St. Anthony's Hospital, Edward White Hospital and St. Petersburg General Hospital.
A captain in the Korean War, he was chief of medical services for the 171st Evacuation Hospital in Taejon, Korea.
He was a graduate of the University of Louisville, where he also received a master's degree in physiology. He received his medical degree in 1944 from the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
He was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honorary Society and the Northeast Racquet Club.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Charlotte B.; three daughters, Anne M. Turner, Temecula, Calif., Mary Margaret "Peggy" Overbey, Alexandria, Va., and Barbara Ruth Gomer, St. Petersburg; two sons, David T. III, Alexandria, and Louis D.C., St. Petersburg; two sisters, Marguerite Hall, Crescent City, and Mary E. Evans, Dunnellon; and eight grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes and Cremation Tribute Center-Ninth Street Chapel, 2201 Dr. M.L. King (Ninth) St. N. A rosary will be at 6 p.m. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, where he was a member. Burial will be at Royal Palm Cemetery South.
