Citrus digestBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published October 24, 2000 Deadline is Wednesday for drought assistanceLECANTO -- Low-income mobile homeowners who need to dig a deeper well because of the drought may qualify for financial assistance through the state Community Development Block Grant for disaster recovery. To be eligible, homeowners must have an annual income that is less than 80 percent of the average income for Citrus residents. The cutoff amount is $24,000 for a couple and $30,000 for a family of four. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday. Applications are available at the Citrus County Housing Services office, Lecanto Government Building, Suite 147, 3600 W Sovereign Path in Lecanto, or call 527-5388 for more information. Landfill adds extra day for mulch pickupsLECANTO -- Workers at the Citrus County Central Landfill will be available an extra day each month to help customers load recycled mulch into their trucks free of charge. The county will load the mulch, made of recycled yard waste, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month, in addition to its regular loading hours of 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Friday. People are also welcome to load mulch into their own trucks during all regular landfill hours. Drivers must cover the loads with a tarp before taking it home, and first-time customers must fill out a release form at the landfill office.
