Letters to the Editors
3 commissioners are given thanks
© St. Petersburg Times, published October 24, 2000
Editor: I would like to thank outgoing county Commissioners Bobbi Mills, Pat Novy and Paul Sullivan for the job they did for the residents of Hernando County. It is most unfortunate they were unable to please all of the residents of this county, but they tried to stand up for what was right and protect us from being bowled over by big business.
To the incoming commissioners, whoever they may be, remember it is your jobs to serve the interest of the residents and not the interest of big business. Otherwise, you can be replaced.
This also applies to the seated commissioners who have not completed their terms.
Commissioner praised for public service
Editor: Due to the recent runoff election, I feel the county has lost one good commissioner in Pat Novy. She did give 2,000 percent of her time to listen to people and to try and halt development.
A year ago, only she and Chris Kingsley voted against the Wal-Mart to be built across from Spring Hill Drive on U.S. 19. Commissioner Paul Sullivan was very arrogant and he, Bobbi Mills and Nancy Robinson voted in favor of development.
Pat Novy was always at public meetings, listening to the people. Never have so few as in this runoff election decided the course for so many in this county.
Pat Novy had more than 48 percent of the vote in the primary. She deserved a recount. Wouldn't any of you have wanted one if you lost by less than 1.5 percent?
Thank you, Pat Novy, for being there for the people all these years.
