Lucinda Williams: power to wow
If I hear one more rave review about Lucinda Williams' powerful live shows, I'm gonna pop. So, you bet your bippy I'll be there Tuesday to see Williams, 48, do her thing.
Fans rave about her honesty, her gritty, compelling vocal delivery, her charming stage patter. I've got ears. I know the lady's latest, Essence, is among the year's finest albums. It's filled with woozy, melancholy tunes about love gone awry.

But, Williams isn't a one-trick pony: Essence explores different genres without ever sounding fleeting or unfocused. Hear Williams express herself with rootsy, folky numbers, swampy blues-style dirges, and, truly, nobody can do a weeper like her.

Janet's scheduled, but will she show?
Tampa Bay fans of Janet Jackson have been on the Janet Watch for over a month: Will she show up? Ms. Jackson canceled something like 417 shows -- okay, maybe I'm exaggerating -- even before the terrorist attacks. Then she canceled her entire European tour after Sept. 11.
So, let's keep fingers crossed that Jackson will be able to rise and shine with a song in her heart and her dancing shoes tied on tight Friday morning.
Jackson's latest, All For You, is filled with all the freaky beats, smutty talk and slow jams we've come to expect from li'l Janet, who let us all know years ago she was a nasty girl.
Word is, the stage show for this tour is amazing. Hope we'll get to judge that for ourselves.
