OCT. 8, 1956, YANKEES 2, DODGERS 0: Three days earlier in Brooklyn, Yankees right-hander Don Larsen went to the mound in second inning with a 6-0 lead.
He didn't finish the inning, and the Yankees lost Game 2 13-8. Funny how a 97-pitch perfect game in the World Series makes that earlier game forgotten. Forty-four years later, most baseball fans still have the image of catcher Yogi Berra leaping into Larsen's arms burned into their memories. Mickey Mantle's running catch of a Gil Hodges drive to left-center erased one of Brooklyn's best chances for a hit. Not on this day.
