Grossman honored by Camp

GAINESVILLE -- Florida quarterback Rex Grossman was named one of the top 10 leading candidates for the Walter Camp Foundation's Player of the Year Award Thursday.

The sophomore is 134-for-205 for 2,229 yards, 22 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in six games.

Florida, coming off a loss to Auburn, faces SEC rival Georgia on Saturday in Jacksonville. "We didn't play as well as we would like to against Auburn, but Auburn is history and we are going to work on our mistakes and build from there," Grossman said.

Grossman leads the nation in seven categories, including passing efficiency (185.29 rating), total offense (366.2 ypg) and touchdown passes (22).

Danny Wuerffel is the only Florida player to win the award (1996).

STARTING LINEUP: Coach Steve Spurrier said Zac Zedalis will start a right guard instead of Tommy Moody and Shannon Snell will start at left guard.

Zedalis moved from center to guard and David Jorgensen is at center.

Sophomore Ben Troupe will start at tight end in place of Aaron Walker.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Fans attending Saturday's game are being encouraged to arrive early because of new safety measures that might cause delays entering Alltel Stadium.

No bags larger than a small purse will be allowed inside the stadium, but fans will be provided a free plastic bag to carry any novelty items such as ponchos or binoculars. The following items are prohibited: coolers, strollers, umbrellas, seat cushions, backpacks, camera and binocular cases.

Items allowed: towels, hats, binoculars, cameras (less than 6-inch lens), sunscreen, small radio with headphones, banners and purses and fanny packs no larger than 81/2-by-11 inches. Gates open at 1:30 and all entering are subject to search.

FSU's Jackson to start at DE

TALLAHASSEE -- Defensive end Alonzo Jackson will return to the starting lineup after missing two games with a sprained ligament in his right knee.

"A starter doesn't lose his job because of an injury," FSU defensive ends coach Jim Gladden said. "He's going to come back and start where he left off."

Jackson returned to practice this week. He has been rehabilitating his knee several hours a day for the past month.

"At first, when I got out there (on the practice field), I was glad to be back out there," Jackson said. "I felt a lot of joy, a lot of energy. "But after a while, I got tired. I realized how long it's been since I'd been out there."

Sophomore Kevin Emanuel will be the other starting defensive end with sophomore Charles Howard, nursing a sprained left shoulder and a fallen arch in his left foot, the backup.

Wide receiver Joey Kaleikini, who will miss his second game in row because of a severely sprained left ankle, expects to return to practice Monday.

RIX WILL START: Coach Bobby Bowden said quarterback Chris Rix will start Saturday.

"Chris will start the game," Bowden said. "We'll sit (today) and decide if we have any plan for him, any structured plan. Normally, you just play and let the game go. If you get ahead, you put the (backup) guy in or behind. Don't get the idea that if (Rix) makes a mistake, I'm going to take him out. No, I would never do that to a quarterback. But if we're struggling, then you might want to look at No. 5 (Adrian McPherson) a little sooner than you have been."

INJURY REPORT: Running backs Greg Jones (sprained left ankle) and Eric Shelton (sprained right ankle, left knee), safety Patrick Newton (concussion), nose guard Jeff Womble (elbow/calf) are probable. Free safety Gennarro Jackson (abdominal strain) is questionable. Defensive back Jerome Carter (knee) is doubtful.

Bulls LB Maurice Jones out

TAMPA -- The Bulls will be without Maurice Jones, who started the first seven games at strongside linebacker and has 47 tackles, seven for a loss. Coach Jim Leavitt said Jones, who has a sore shoulder, will not play, and redshirt freshman Jason Allen will start.

Punter Devin Sanderson, who did not play last week because of a concussion, and cornerback Kenny Robinson, who sat out with a sprained ankle, will play. Defensive tackle Tavares Jurineack (ankle) will dress, but Matt Groelinger or Tchecoy Blount will start in his place.

Running back Derrick Rackard (ankle) and wide receiver Travis Lipp (sprained shoulder) will not play.
