Bulls bits

TAMPA -- The soccer season is winding down, but senior midfielder Siri Nordby has continued her hot streak. The Osteraas, Norway, native scored twice Wednesday to lead USF to a 2-1 win over Jacksonville.

That performance came after her hat trick Sunday in the Bulls' 6-0 win over Louisville.

Nordby's scoring outburst gives her 12 goals, tops on the team. Throw in her two assists and she also is the Bulls' leading scorer.

She is second among Conference USA players in shots and first in shots per game.

And with one regular-season game remaining, the Bulls could use another Nordby performance to ensure themselves a higher seeding with the conference tournament pairings still up in the air.

The Bulls are 6-8-1 and have already qualified for the post-season tournament.

However, only the first four spots of the eight-team tournament are set.

USF is tied with Southern Mississippi, Houston and Tulane and depending on USF's 2 p.m. home game with UNC-Charlotte on Sunday and Tulane's meeting with Southern Miss today, a variety of scenarios could happen.

But the only way USF can avoid the last seed is to beat the 49ers.

MEN'S SOCCER: Senior forward Greg Krauss notched his second hat trick of the season in a 4-2 win at DePaul. The second half belonged to the Bulls as Jason Cudjoe scored and Krauss added two more scores.

USF (9-8) ends its regular season with home games against Louisville at 7 p.m. Saturday and Saint Louis at 7 p.m. Nov. 3. CROSS COUNTRY: At the pre-NCAA meet in Ames, Iowa, the USF men placed 23rd among 53 schools. Andrew Smith placed 71st in 32:07.

On the women's side, Rita Arndt finished 74th in 22:22.

MEN'S GOLF: Rain shortened the NCAA East Regional Preview Tournament in Williamsburg, Va., leaving the Bulls 13th among the 24 squads.

The Bulls, led by Brett Hitchcock, shot 603 over 36 holes, finishing 26 shots behind winner Virginia Tech at 577. Hitchcock finished in a 14th-place tie with rounds of 74 and 72 for a two-over 146, four shots behind medalist Brendon DeJonge of Virginia Tech.
