ART: UT's Scarfone/Hartley Galleries will showcase works by artist Hoang Van Bui until Dec. 1, with an opening reception today from 7 to 9 p.m. More than 15 individual works will be on display in Being Human Being, including several site-specific installations. The works employ a variety of media, including fabric, wood, metal, stone, cast bronze, natural material and found objects. A video documentary of Van Bui's installations in Vietnam, Berlin and Washington, D.C., will be on display during the exhibition. There also will be a gallery talk by the artist on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. Admission is free. Call (813) 253-6217.

USF's pre-college and community outreach is offering a Saturday Arts Program beginning this Saturday. Studio classes will include cartooning (ages 7-10), drawing I (ages 8-11) and drawing II (ages 12-17). All classes are held on the Tampa campus. FESTIVAL: UT welcomes the fourthannual CraftArt 2000 outdoor festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Historic Plant Park on campus. The festival features 125 distinguished artists from across the country who work in clay, wood, metal, fiber, jewelry, paper, glass and mixed media. Admission is $2 donation for adults, free for children. Call (727) 821-7391.

THEATER: The Florida College Fine Arts Department will present a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Henderson Dining Hall on campus. Dinner is offered. The actors will offer up a classic case of Who Done It, and the audience will have to solve it. Cost is $15 for adults, $10 children. Call (813) 988-6292.

LECTURES: USF's Contemporary Art Museum presents an artist's talk with Edward Ruscha today from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Music Recital Hall, (FAH 101). The opening reception will follow from 8 to 10 p.m. in the USF Contemporary Art Museum. Since the '60s he has created prints, paintings, and films in a variety of styles including figuration, abstraction, realism, surrealism, minimalism, pop and conceptual art. He has produced prints and artist's books that embrace the vernacular of America's landscape, its cities, and its culture. The lecture is free. Call (813) 974-4324.

UT welcomes The Institute for Estate and Financial Planning on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sword and Shield Room, Bob Martinez Sports Center. The presentation will include expert advice on qualified state tuition programs, wealth management, estate planning, and other topics. The guest speakers will be R. Seth Mann and Thomas A. Meachum. Mann practices law in Orlando and Dade City and is president of the Pasco County Bar Association. Meachum, an MBA graduate of UT, is a financial consultant in the Clearwater office of Merrill Lynch. USF hosts a lecture by William E. Schmidt, an associate managing editor of the New York Times, on Wednesday at 2 p.m in the Marshall Center Ballroom. Schmidt has extensive experience as a foreign correspondent in the Middle East, the former USSR and Western Europe. He will reflect on the life and role of the foreign correspondent.
