After wins last week over Rollins and Florida Tech, UT has won five in a row and 12 of its last 13. UT, 19-3 and 7-0 in Sunshine State Conference play, is ranked No. 10 nationally and continues league play today at Saint Leo, Saturday at Florida Southern and Monday at Eckerd. In sweeping Rollins and Florida Tech last week, UT received outstanding play from Lacey Myers. She filled in for Kam Gillispie, who rested an abdominal strain in both matches. Against Rollins, Myers led the Spartans with eight kills and four digs. Against the Panthers, Sandi Fox led the way with 14 kills and nine digs. Ania Ruiz chipped in with 11 kills and 10 digs. Tampa currently is No. 1 in the South Region with eight regional victories. North Florida is second at 9-1 and Barry is fourth at 6-3. MEN'S SOCCER: After scoring five goals in two matches to raise his season total to 14, freshman midfielder Roy Fink was named conference offensive player of the week. Fink was the Spartans' offense in a 3-2 double overtime win over Rollins and added two more in the 5-1 win over No. 15 Assumption (Mass.). That leaves UT 13-3, 4-1 in the conference and No. 2 in the South Region. UT plays at Lynn on Saturday and ends the regular season Nov. 4 at home against Florida Tech. WOMEN'S SOCCER: After its wild 9-7 win at Rollins and its 2-1 overtime triumph over Edinboro (Pa.), the Spartans are 12-6 overall, 3-2 in conference play and owners of more team records. UT has established a record for wins with 12 and goals with 54. Also, another point will set a new mark with 152. Individually, Tai Kirklin continues to rewrite the record books. She has set records this season with 21 goals and 48 points. Stacy Estes needs one point to tie the single-season assists record of 11. UT hosts No. 4 North Florida at 7 p.m. Saturday and ends the regular season Nov. 4 at Lynn. CROSS COUNTRY: The UT men's and women's squads placed third at the Sunshine State Championships. Doan Greenidge paced the men, placing eighth, while Tracy Buxton was fourth among the women. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
