It's kingfish tournament time

The kingfish are coming and that means it is time for tournaments. Remember, the minimum size for king mackerel is 24 inches and the daily bag limit is two fish per angler.

TODAY-SUNDAY: 10th Annual Indian Rocks Beach Suncoast Kingfish Classic, Holiday Inn Harborside. Captains' meeting, 7 p.m. today. Sponsored by Treasure Island Charities to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. First prize: a $25,000 Proline boat, Mercury outboard and Loadmaster trailer. Entry fee is $300.

NOV. 3-5: 10th Annual Treasure Island Suncoast Kingfish Classic, Gators on the Pass. Captains' meeting 7 p.m. Nov. 3. Another TIC event to benefit the Pinellas Marine Institute and All Children's Hospital. First prize: a $45,000, 23-foot Dorado boat, Mercury outboard and Loadmaster trailer. Entry is $300.

Slow for manatees

There will be free boat-safety checks and boaters kits that include polarized sunglasses and a chart of the bay, as well as children's crafts and instant postcard photos taken with Maurice the Manatee
