OCT. 5, 1947, DODGERS 8, YANKEES 6: Needing to win to send the Series to a seventh game, the Dodgers led 4-0 after 21/2 innings. The Yankees rallied for a 5-4 lead after four innings, before Brooklyn scored four in the top of the sixth. The 8-5 lead seemed safe until the eighth, when Snuffy Stirnweiss walked, Yogi Berra singled and Joe DiMaggio came to the plate. The Yankee Clipper's drive headed toward the leftfield seats, but Al Gionfriddo caught it at the wall at the 415-foot mark, prompting a rare emotional display from DiMaggio, a shuffling kick at the dirt as he rounded the bases.
