LECANTO -- Seven Rivers Christian won its first district title thanks to the effort of setter and hitter Sherry Atwood.

She had two clean kills and a total of 10 winners to lead the Warriors to a 15-2, 17-15 sweep of Cedar Key in the Class A, District 3 Championship on Friday.

Atwood led a huge effort in the first game, which saw Seven Rivers (13-4) jump out to a 7-0 lead. Atwood had a kill and served three winners, giving the Warriors 11 points.

Seven Rivers closed out the first game with four straight points off Atwood's serve, including two kills from Danielle Albury.

Yet things were not nearly as easy in Game 2. The Sharks (6-10) held their own with solid defense and tough serving.

Cedar Key took an early 3-0 lead in a game that saw a total of 33 sideouts and five lead changes.

Trailing 9-8 late, the Warriors took control behind the serve of Kristen Cortese and the hitting of Atwood and Albury, who connected on four straight winners to give Seven Rivers an 11-9 edge.

Cedar Key nabbed the lead one more time, 12-11, before the Warriors finally turned back the Sharks.

Atwood clinched the win with a booming strike that went off the hands of a Sharks blocker and out of bounds.

"She's one of our setters, and she's a tremendous hitter," Warriors coach Greg Hamilton said. "She really stepped up in the clutch tonight."
