It ain't over until the fat cow sings

Velocity Sports and Entertainment, a marketing agency that managed this summer's New York Cow Parade, will be auctioning off a Yankees cow Thursday night in West Orange, N.J. The cow, nicknamed "Moogie Berra," is autographed by 60 past and present Yankees and will be auctioned off for several charities, including the Yogi Berra Museum. Starting bid is projected at approximately $2,500.

Subway Series stat of the day

A true then-and-now reflection on the state of baseball salaries: In 1950, the Yankees' player salaries totaled $488,500, the Dodgers' $357,500 and the Giants' $349,000. The combined payroll of the Mets and Yankees 50 years later: $193-million. "What you don't have now, which you had in the 1950s, was the story of the downtrodden Dodgers and the affluent Yankees," said Seymour Siwoff, president of the Elias Sports Bureau. "The Yankees and Mets are affluent."

Win, lose or draw N.Y. fans yammer

Wait 'til next year!

After the one-sided finish of the first Subway Series in 44 years, the war cry of vintage Brooklyn Dodgers fans applied Friday to boosters of both the winning New York Yankees and the losing New York Mets.

We'll be back in the World Series, vowed devastated devotees of the Mets.

We'll be waiting, promised smug supporters of the Yankees.

"I think the Subway Series will be more frequent now, and the Mets will have their day," predicted Rohan Sulph, 23, a bus tour ticket agent from Queens. "We will win."

For the opposing point of view: salesman Yury Verduga, 27, of Fort Lee, N.J.

Verduga wore a Yankees jacket to his job as a computer salesman Friday. He looked a bit haggard after attending the clinching game, and then celebrating afterward.

"Hey, it ended with the best team winning," he boasted. "It was a clean and clear win."
