Letters to the EditorsConfidence in fire chief is misguided
© St. Petersburg Times, Editor: I have tried to understand Commissioner Jeff Hollander's backing of fire Chief Michael Morgan, but for the life of me I cannot understand why he, on a regular basis, backs the chief and his mistakes over the rest of the fire commissioners. Mr. Hollander's inexperience and arrogance will lead to some kind of serious trouble in the future. Please, Mr. Hollander, think before you speak, and when in doubt, look to the other commissioners who have the expert knowledge to help the Spring Hill Fire Rescue District continue to be the best in the state.
Thank you to doctor for setting record straightEditor: In her letter of Oct. 18, Susan McGrogan writes that perhaps we in Hernando County have been "too emotional and too quick to judge" the words of Dr. Parimi, that the matter should have been handled internally, and since he has apologized, she feels we should all move on. She then questions the motives of Dr. Scott Gebhardt, who, as a witness to the remarks made by Dr. Parimi, wrote to clarify what he heard following Dr. Parimi's apology. I commend the courage of Dr. Gebhardt for setting the record straight in his letter to the editor and by accusing Dr. Gebhardt of doing harm to the people of this county, Ms. McGrogan does not go very far toward "letting wounds heal." So seldom are we, as patients, allowed to be privy to the real feelings and conversations between our doctors. Isn't it important to learn the truth of the words of Dr. Parimi that he chose to share with his colleagues on that terrible morning of Sept. 11? It would have been of greater disservice to all other physicians of this county who came here from other countries to remain under a veil of suspicion with patients wondering if their doctor was the one who uttered the words that America "got what it deserved." Dr. Parimi knows that in this country he may declare his feelings without fear of incarceration. However, he also has learned that those utterances have a price. The people of this county had every right to learn what those words were, and then decide which doctor would be placing his hands on them when they need treatment. Americans can handle the truth.
Library users disappointed by news of impact feesEditor: Thanks for publishing that impact fees were being raised on everything but the library system. With 86,000 library card members who really appreciate Hernando County's library system, this is a real downer. Also, are there additional monies to perhaps cut the grass in the medians, swales and around proposed park sites in Spring Hill?
