Man suspected of having terrorist ties is releasedBy Times staff writer
© St. Petersburg Times, A Hudson man, whom investigators initially suspected of having terrorist ties, was released early Saturday morning from county jail, Pasco County sheriff's deputies said. Syed Hussain, a Muslim man with a commercial pilot's license, posted bail and left Land O'Lakes jail at 4 a.m., deputies said. He had been held without bail since Oct. 16 when he was arrested on drunk driving charges, investigators said. According to his arrest reports, Hussain told authorities he had links to Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. He also threatened to blow up the jail, the reports state. A judge had ordered Hussain held without bail until it could be determined that he had no terrorist links. His name was similar to several names on FBI's wanted list, but the FBI determined Hussain was not a wanted man. He had a bail reduction hearing Friday before County Judge William Sestak. Saturday, he posted $15,350 bail. He faces charges of threats to place a destructive device, corruption by threat, driving under the influence and resisting arrest without violence. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
