As the newly appointed office managing partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Andrew McAdams has responsibility for approximately 325 employees in Tampa and Orlando as well as maintaining his work with clients. Tampa is the larger of the company's two area offices, with an estimated 250 employees. Orlando has approximately 75 staffers. "I'll be responsible for client relations, managing people (and) managing office operations as well," McAdams said. "I'll also maintain my client responsibilities," he said, but added, "I'll be more selective." PricewaterhouseCoopers provides professional services in accounting, auditing, tax consulting and human resource consulting, McAdams said. It's the largest global professional services company in the world, he said, as the result of a merger three years ago between Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand. Internationally, the company has an estimated 150,000 employees and consultants in 150 countries. Prior to his Oct. 1 promotion, McAdams, as partner, was responsible for the audit practice of the Tampa and Orlando offices. His new responsibilities include overseeing tax consulting and other professional services. McAdams has been in the industry, and in the Tampa Bay area, for more than 25 years. He earned a bachelor's degree in science and business administration from the University of South Carolina, and a master's degree in accounting from the University of Georgia. He began his professional career in Tampa with Coopers & Lybrand. "As the market grew and the practice grew, I progressed from staff accountant to partner," he said. He became a partner 16 years ago with Coopers & Lybrand and remained a partner after the merger. McAdams said he was attracted to the industry because it offers "a combination of working with people to help their businesses succeed and meet their objectives." "I clearly enjoyed the practice of accounting. Early on in this business, you get a chance to deal with the higher level of finance executives." His career has taken him to a number of foreign countries to meet with clients, including Mexico, Canada and the United Kingdom. "The international aspect is something I've enjoyed immensely," he said. PricewaterhouseCoopers has "a significant investment in this community," McAdams said, noting the company has an international training center in Tampa. McAdams, 48, has been active in the Tampa Bay community. He was recently appointed to the board of directors of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. McAdams is married and has three children. The family lives in Palm Harbor. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
