© St. Petersburg Times, TAMPA -- A maker of ceramic teapots in miniature was among the winners of $1,000 awards of excellence at CraftArt, an annual outdoor show that took place Saturday and Sunday at Plant Park on the University of Tampa campus. Fong Choo of Louisville, Ky., who dramatically displayed each tiny vessel in its own case, joined four other winners in the excellence category, as selected by Andrew Glasgow, director of the Furniture Society in Asheville, N.C. The others were Mary A. Jackson, Charleston, S.C., basketry; Dale Lewis, Calera, Ala., furniture/wood; Jaime Jo Fisher, Dupo, Ill., jewelry; and Judi Wood, West Palm Beach, beading/fiber. Glasgow also presented 10 awards of distinction, $500 each, to: Obayana Ajanaku, Avondale Estates, Ga., jewelry; Kristin Holeman, Fort Lauderdale, jewelry; Kevin Kuenzel, Tampa, mixed media; Melissa McClellan, Longwood, mixed media/sculpture; Phil Parker, Flager Beach, mixed media/handmade paper; Roddy Reed, Tampa, ceramics; Vincent Sansone, Orlando, ceramics; Celeste Simon, St. Petersburg, mixed media/wood; Chuck Solberg, St. Paul, Minn., ceramics; and Jean Yao, Fort Lauderdale, basketry. A third of the artists this year were from out of state, an unprecedented number. The show is organized each year by Florida Craftsmen, a statewide organization promoting contemporary fine crafts.
