By Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published October 30, 2000 Girl suffers head injuries in boat accidentA young girl was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital on Sunday after a boating accident in the Homosassa River. The boat struck Channel Marker 22 in Homosassa Bay about 2 p.m., according to the Florida Marine Patrol. The boat contained a family of four from Marion County. The most seriously injured person, the girl, suffered a head injury, said Officer Terry Allyn of the Florida Marine Patrol. Another girl on the boat was slightly injured and driven with a family member to Tampa, he said. The driver of the boat may have hit a submerged object before striking the channel marker, Allyn said. He did not release the identities of the people involved in the crash. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
