Video Game ReviewsBy ROBB GUIDO © St. Petersburg Times, published October 30, 2000 Hogs of WarSYSTEM: PlayStation PRICE: $39.99 MAKER: Infogrames Players who thought pitting worms against each other was fun will enjoy this natural next step in animal combat. This time, the turn-based fighting is in 3-D and includes pigs that speak in German and Japanese accents, among others. It's a must for anyone who played and loved Worms. Grade: A- San Francisco Rush 2049SYSTEM: Dreamcast PRICE: $49.99 MAKER: Midway Midway knows action, and Rush lives up to its name. Sure, skaters catch air, but the cars in this game sprout wings, as well as flip and spin when they leave the pavement. The stunt and four-player battle modes are where the fun is. Grade: B+ Buffy the Vampire SlayerSYSTEM: Game Boy Color PRICE: $29.99 MAKER: THQ I was pleasantly surprised with Buffy. The pretty vampire hunter can roll, kick, punch and jump, and then put a stake through a fallen monster's heart. Unfortunately, the levels do little more than throw one vampire after another at Buffy. Grade: D+ Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: Second EditionSYSTEM: Game Boy Color PRICE: $29.99 MAKER: THQ A Game Boy version of this game makes sense. Players can speed through a round in about 10 minutes while in the car, in bed or wherever. The questions repeat, but that just helped me make my way up to the harder questions. Grade: A Power Rangers Lightspeed RescueSYSTEM: PlayStation PRICE: $39.99 MAKER: THQ It's fitting that a brainless TV series such as Power Rangers would get a brainless game. Playing Power Rangers means running around and beating up things, while trying to rescue hostages. It's lame. Grade: D- The Little Mermaid IISYSTEM: PlayStation PRICE: $39.99 MAKER: THQ I wasn't expecting much out of this title. Disney games aren't software as much as brand-name slop, and the trend continues with Little Mermaid. Players swim around, collect coins and pearls and watch movie clips. Buy the DVD instead.
