Boy, 12, molested after entering stranger's car

ST. PETERSBURG -- A 12-year-old boy walking home Sunday night got into a stranger's car and was molested, authorities said.

The boy was in the 1000 block of 31st Street S about 8:40 p.m., when a man driving a light blue General Motors car pulled over and asked the boy whether he wanted a ride, said St. Petersburg police spokesman George Kajtsa.

They drove to Little Lake Maggiore Park, Kajtsa said, where the man masturbated and committed oral sex on the boy, Kajtsa said.

Police are looking for the man, described as a black male, about 21 years old, who is slightly built and has close cut hair. He was driving a four-door, larger model car that was covered in mud.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to notify St. Petersburg police at (727) 893-7780.

Tampa lawyer to challenge Bonanno for seat on bench

TAMPA -- Tampa lawyer Gary Dolgin announced Monday that he will run against Circuit Judge Robert Bonanno.

Dolgin, 37, said he plans to focus on his credentials in his campaign for a seat on the circuit bench next year.

He said he won't run a negative campaign against Bonanno, who faces impeachment hearings in the state House and disciplinary proceedings in the Florida Supreme Court for entering the empty office of another judge last year.

"As a judicial candidate, I have an obligation to take the high road and focus on my positives," Dolgin said.

Dolgin, who began practicing law in 1990, concentrates on family law in his one-person Tampa law firm. A former prosecutor and former public defender, Dolgin also does some criminal defense work.

Dolgin graduated from Emory University with an accounting degree in 1986 and earned a law degree from the University of Florida in 1990. He is married and has 3-year-old twins.

Bonanno plans to run for re-election, despite his recent troubles. The election will be in September 2002.

Citrus residents can offer opinions on parkway

Suncoast Parkway planners will survey Citrus County residents on how they feel about a proposed leg of the highway in that county.

Last month, the state started its second formal study of the proposed Citrus leg. Florida still hasn't decided whether it will build the Citrus portion; the study, expected to last three years, will help planners decide.

Consultants will look at traffic and projections on Citrus roads and the parkway's first phase, which runs through Pasco and Hernando counties, and examine environmental and social effects.

Suspect in meat cleaver attack surrenders

TAMPA -- A man accused of attacking his girlfriend with a meat cleaver turned himself in to authorities this weekend.

Victor Lamar Ford, 35, of 1812 E 143rd Ave. in Tampa walked into the Orient Road Jail on Saturday night after the Sheriff's Office alerted local media that deputies were searching for him.

Sheriff's deputies said he hit his 28-year-old girlfriend on the head and neck with a meat cleaver during an argument last week. Authorities said he also tried to attack his girlfriend's two children, ages 11 and 3, but his girlfriend managed to stop him.

Ford was charged with attempted murder, battery and aggravated assault. He is being held without bail at the Orient Road jail.
