WINTER HAVEN -- Darkness was closing in as the last flight of players finished, but the team and individual winners already were posted.
Mallory Code and Brooke Layton led Chamberlain to the Class 2A, Region 5 title Monday by 34 strokes over Plant.
Both teams advanced to the state tournament next week in Vero Beach.
"Our girls have been putting in a lot of time practicing this year, and their hard work is paying off at the right time," Chamberlain coach Frank George said. "We are not as good as last year, but we should be in the race."
"Our whole team came out last Friday and played a practice round," Layton said. "The course was slow and weather great, but today, it was windy and the course fast. I think they mowed."
Lakeland Jenkins freshman Heather Burgner captured medalist honors with a 77.. She was followed by Code (78), Armwood's Ashley Barton and Layton (80) and Sickles' Megan Burney and East Bay's Brittany Rolfe (82).
The top two individuals qualified for the state tournament. Behind Chamberlain's 351, Plant scored 385 to earn its first trip to state since 1996.
"We need to work on our chipping and putting before next week," Plant coach Art Psillis said.
Clearwater Central Catholic won at the Country Club of Sebring with a team score of 316, 50 shots better than second-place Sebring.
Ashley Lamoureux led the Marauders with a 71, which also was the tournament's low score. Lara Smilnak's 78 and Jessica Daniels' 82 also helped CCC.
Berkeley Prep finished third with a 379, and Indian Rocks Christian finished sixth with a 439.
CCC will play Tuesday and Wednesday at Sand Ridge Golf Club in Vero Beach.
