Playoff scenariosBy Compiled by GREG AUMAN © St. Petersburg Times, published November 1, 2000 The two playoff berths for Class 3A, District 5 are up for grabs for four teams, with one district game remaining for each. The district standings will come down to two games Friday night -- Central at Crystal River and Citrus at Hernando. Here are the scenarios: 1. If Crystal River and Hernando win: Crystal River (5-0 in district) wins the title. Hernando (4-1) gets the second seed. Central, either 7-3 or 8-2, likely has an at-large berth. 2. If Crystal River and Citrus win: Crystal River (5-0) wins the title. Central, Citrus and Hernando are all 3-2 in district, and all have 1-1 records within that threesome. That means a three-team district shootout Nov. 6, with the winner getting the second berth. 3. If Central and Hernando win: This is the crazy one. Central, Crystal River and Hernando would each be 4-1 in district, with a 1-1 record within the threesome. That means a three-team shootout to decide which team is the champion, which is second and which is hoping for an at-large berth. 4. If Central and Citrus win: Central and Crystal River each would be 4-1 in district, but Central would win the head-to-head tie-breaker, giving the Bears the title. Crystal River would take the second spot, and Hernando likely would miss the playoffs with a record no better than 5-5. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
