The idea of disciplining departing teachers is wrong

Editor: Re: Look for ways to keep teachers, Oct 26 letter to the editor:

Congratulations to Rolando Herrera for his intelligent letter written to address the Hernando County School Board's ridiculous idea of punishing teachers who leave during the school year. For a board member to even suggest suspending a teacher's license for such an "infraction" indicates the problems in this district are not understood by the members of the board.

Who has asked these departing teachers why they are leaving, and what reasonable solutions to this problem have been brought to light? If none, then the School Board is not doing its job and neither are the school administrators.

Please, people, face the facts and use a little common sense.
