© St. Petersburg Times, Phillips earns certificationINVERNESS -- County Commissioner Vicki Phillips has earned certification through the Florida Association of Counties' Voluntary Certification Program, a training program that helps commissioners better understand and perform their duties. The curriculum, which can take up to two years to complete, includes seminars on financial management, legislative processes and land use decisionmaking. Phillips is one of "the distinguished few" across the state who have obtained this certification since the program's 1996 inception, according to a Florida Association of Counties news release. Robbins appointed to circuit benchOCALA -- Gov. Jeb Bush has tapped Sandra Sue Robbins to fill a new judgeship in the 5th Judicial Circuit. The circuit includes Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion and Sumter counties. Robbins will work primarily in Marion. She is expected to take the bench Jan. 2, said David Trammell, senior deputy court administrator for the circuit. Robbins, 49, of Ocala, was one of four finalists for the position, which was created by the Legislature last spring. She is currently a Marion County Court judge, a position she has held since 2000. Before that, she was in a private law practice. Band members selling Christmas treesINVERNESS -- The Citrus High School Marching Canes are selling Christmas trees: Fraser firs from North Carolina. They will be 5- to 10-foot trees. Tree reservations can be obtained from any band member or at the spaghetti dinner and football game Friday at Citrus High School. The trees will arrive Nov. 29 and will be kept at the band's Christmas tree lot on the corner of Main Street and South Boulevard.
