Frampton and Allman come alive

photo
Peter Frampton
Peter Frampton, the man behind the sexy guitar wah wah of Frampton Comes Alive, may not wake up with a wine glass in his hand these days, but the 1970s boy wonder of the fretboard still plays a mean lick.

He turned 50 this year, but that didn't slow him down none. Frampton this fall issues a custom line of guitar accessories including the Framptone, his own guitar talkbox. (That's the cool warbly effect that made Do You Feel Like I Do? so lick-lickety good.)

Frampton recently debuted his line of guitar goodies by jumping onstage with both the Foo Fighters and Bon Jovi (who, come to think of it, ain't so young any more either.)

Greg Allman
Gregg Allman, a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, turns 53 in December. Allman is so much more than another rock 'n' roll drug and booze waste-oid gone clean. Or just another ex-Mr. Cher.

Allman's signature bluesy growl and his wicked guitar and keyboard licks are the reasons fans put up with a 10-year wait for 1997's Searching For Simplicity, a wise and haunting solo album, surely Allman's best in years.

Peter Frampton performs today at 8 p.m. with Atlanta Rhythm Section at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. $35.75-$39.75. (727) 791-7400. Greg Allman performs at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ruth Eckerd Hall. $29.75-$32.75.
