Bridge plaque honors worker

HUNTER'S GREEN -- Family, friends and city officials gathered Friday to dedicate a bridge over Trout Creek in memory of Peter Perhach, who was killed during the bridge's construction.

Perhach died in March 2000 after he was hit in the head by a piece of drilling equipment while installing the bridge. Perhach worked for CDK Drill Shafts Corp. and lived in Tarpon Springs. He was 49.

A plaque in Perhach's honor was placed at the foot of the bridge along the biking and jogging trail off Bruce B. Downs Boulevard near Flatwoods Park.

Among those present were Perhach's wife and daughter and City Council member Shawn Harrison. Billy and Lisa Ramsdell of Misty Creek also attended. Mr. Ramsdell was working at the site just before the accident happened and helped spearhead the dedication.

"We wanted to do something," Mrs. Ramsdell said. "We felt very drawn."
