SidelineCompiled by KEITH NIEBUHR © St. Petersburg Times, published November 5, 2000 FootballEx-Citrus star Hamilton drafted by XFL's RageRick Hamilton, a former Citrus standout, was selected by the Orlando Rage with pick No. 388 in last week's XFL Draft. Hamilton was a wide receiver and linebacker at Citrus High School from 1984-88, and a Class 3A first-team all-state selection as a senior. He later played at Central Florida, where he was regarded as the team's best defensive player. After college, Hamilton spent time with Kansas City and the New York Jets of the NFL, but was slowed by injuries for years. Most recently, he played with the Arena Football League's Orlando Predators, with whom he was the Arena Bowl MVP in 1998. In that game, Hamilton rushed for a record 82 yards and three touchdowns despite playing with a broken hand. Hamilton is the Predators' career rushing leader and will play linebacker for the Rage. The XFL's inaugural season begins Feb. 3. The Rage are being guided by ex-Florida coach Galen Hall. RecreationThe second annual Mike Hampton Family Day is scheduled for Dec. 16 at Bicentennial Park in Crystal River Hampton, a starting pitcher for the New York Mets and a Crystal River graduate, and some of his friends will give throwing and hitting tips to children.
