Poynter to host writing workshop for high school

The Poynter Institute will host the Florida High School Writers Workshop for high school students and teachers. The event, scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 18, will be held at the University of South Florida, Bayboro Campus, St. Petersburg and is free

American Stage to hold memorial for director

American Stage will present a memorial service in honor of the late stage director William Garette Shepard, Jr., who passed away unexpectedly in September, at 8 p.m. Nov. 26 at the theater, 211 Third St. S, St. Petersburg. The service will include readings, musical numbers and performances by many of the artists who worked with Shepard during his four years as production stage manager at the theater. Space is limited, so reservations are recommended. A memorial fund has been set up in Shepard's name, and family members ask that anyone wishing to donate to send funds to the American Stage William Garette Shepard Jr. Fund. Flags available through Department of State

Both State of Florida and United States flags are available through the Department of State. Costs vary according to size and materials used. County Animal Services plans reunion celebration

Adopt a pet for $30 or less at the Pinellas County Department of Animal Services Fifth Annual Family Reunion and Community Celebration, 12450 Ulmerton Road, Largo. Bring out the whole family, including your pets, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9 for free hot dogs, soft drinks, entertainment, pet vendors with free samples, face painting and drawings for tickets to Lowry Park Zoo, Celebration Station and more. Rabies shots are available for $1 with the purchase of county pet licence. Free pictures with Mrs. Santa Paws while they last. Call 582-2600.

Fife and drum corps seeks new members

Liberty Fife & Drum Corps seeks drummers and fifers to sign up to play historical American music at parades and other local events. They're also looking for marchers to participate in their color guard. Call 360-2677 for information.

Florida International Museum seeks donations

The Florida International Museum seeks donations of items related to the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 for a special exhibit to open this winter. Items of interest include photographs, slides or negatives, uniforms or military memorabilia, fallout shelter materials, maps, diaries, flight logs and other documents. YouthBuild offers training program for youths 16-24

YouthBuild St. Petersburg offers an eight-month program for youths ages 16 to 24 who reside in St. Petersburg that includes GED training, leadership development and training in the career field of construction, among other support services. To be considered for admission, call 893-1573.

SPIFFS presents Harvest Festival in Pinellas Park

Today is the final day when the 45 ethnic groups that form SPIFFS will present their fall celebration at the England Brothers Band Shell Park, 5160 81st Ave., Pinellas Park.

Among the many activities will be the return of the Egyptian Pyramid, which appeared at this year's Folk Fair, an ethnic bake sale, the parade of nations, music and carnival rides. Everyone in the family will find something of interest.

Hours are 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Rides will continue until 10 p.m.

Admission and parking are free. Ride tickets can be purchased in advance at the SPIFFS office, 330 Fifth St. N. Call 551-3365 for additional information.

CROP Walk to help needy

For more than 30 years, the CROP Walk has raised funds to support worldwide and local efforts to provide assistance to the needy.

This year's walk is at 2:30 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church, 701 Beach Drive N, St. Petersburg. Walkers participate in a one- or five-mile walk. Sponsor sheets are available up until the day of the walk at the St. Petersburg Free Clinic, 863 Third Ave. N., or by calling Jane Walker at 821-1200, ext. 110, Rosalyn Hunter at ext. 114, or Charlean Schubert at 578-1119.

Salvation Army to hold bazaar on Wednesday

The Salvation Army's Home League plans a holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Salvation Army's 3800 Ninth Ave. N location in St. Petersburg.

A large assortment of Christmas cards and wrapping, crafts, ceramics, decorations, jewelry, artwork, gifts and food will be available for sale. Proceeds benefit the Worldwide Missionary Service. Call 323-2222.
