Jim Rice, rescue and rehabilitation biologist at the New England Aquarium, will speak on Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Strandings at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Dendy-McNair Auditorium. Rice is a senior member of the New England Aquarium's rescue and rehabilitation team, which responds when whales, dolphins, seals and sea turtles are stranded on the New England coast. Rice will talk about his experiences rescuing the animals, researching the causes of their strandings, caring for the animals while in captivity and rehabilitating them for release to the wild.

An exhibit on the Buffalo Soldiers will open Saturday at the Eckerd College Library. In 1863, the United States Colored Troops, later known as the Buffalo Soldiers, were formed. Frank Bell Jr., historian for the 9th and 10th (Horse) Calvary Association in Tampa, will speak about the history of the Buffalo Soldiers at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Griffin Chapel. Five Buffalo Soldier descendants also will be on hand. A reception in the Library Garden will follow the opening. The exhibit will be on display in the library through Nov. 17. Library hours are 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
