LEFTOVER EMMY OBSERVATIONS:

  • No one should have been surprised that the finale of Barbra Streisand singing You'll Never Walk Alone, ostensibly to commemorate the Sept. 11 victims and honor the country, was all about Barbra. Camera pans to Barbra in profile, who then slowly turns to face the audience to sing. Barbra belting it out like she's doing a 10 p.m. show in Vegas. Barbra assuming the extended applause at the end is all for her and smiling and bowing . . . and smiling and bowing . . . and smiling and bowing.
  • What do you think Steve Martin and Ellen DeGeneres, both exes of Anne Heche, chatted about during the commercial break following an audience bit they did together? Maybe nothing given that Martin looked a little uncomfortable.
  • Real Calista Flockhart or body double? We decided to compare this undated Flockhart photo in our archives with a shot of her from Sunday night. For a fleeting moment Sunday as she walked onstage, she looked liked she had a little belly. Then it became apparent her skirt was just too big and bunching up at the waist.
  • Also for a point of comparison, we offer Bjork in her swan dress. You decide who wears a dead bird better, her or Ellen.
  • Seminal moment or fluke?: By being named best comedy, HBO's Sex and the City becomes the first cable program to win a best series trophy.
