Kingfish season is hot, and you can expect that to continue through November. Hot spots are the Clearwater hard bottom, the Rube Allen, the Betty Rose and the Egmont channel.

Sunday we experienced red tide near the channel. We were gold-hooking blue runners near the bottom in 50 feet of water, but the red tide was near the surface so our bait kept dying in the well. The red tide seems to be located in parts of Tampa Bay and south to Sarasota.

Spanish mackerel fishing is good at all our local piers and beachs. Look for the diving white birds to locate them. The mackerel are feeding on small glass minnows, a No. 1 silver spoon tied to light line will give you all the action you want.

Grouper fishing has been excellent in 35 to 55 feet of water.
