According to hospital spokesman Joe Foster, Hickey was released Monday morning. Meanwhile, Hickey's campaign chairwoman, Roberta Long, said Hickey would not be released until this morning. "We're just thrilled. He's doing great and he'll be released in time so he can go vote," she said. Repeated phone calls to Hickey's home and mobile phone voice mail were not returned. Hickey went to the emergency room Saturday morning complaining of fatigue and leg cramps. "He was just exhausted, dehydrated and his legs started cramping from all the walking," Long said. She said his condition is not serious or long-term and that he had been in intensive care under observation because he has had vascular problems and doctors wanted to be sure he was okay. Hickey, 56, is principal at Crystal River Middle School. A Democrat, he is challenging Republican incumbent Pete Kelly and Ansel Briggs, who has no party affiliation. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
