    Honors and awards

Jack Siegel, a seventh grader at Osceola Middle School, won first prize in a Flanigan Farms recipe contest for "Walnut Cheddar Bake-Up." Jack concocted the recipe with his mother's help after his grandfather suggested that he enter the contest. Jack was awarded $100 and his school will receive $1,000. His recipe will be included in the spring edition of Flanigan Farms' cookbook.

    Sibling achievers

Christopher Cornelius "Chris," a 2000 graduate of Dunedin High School, received a $1,000 scholarship from the Florida Police Chiefs education program. The presentation was made in June at the Florida Association of Police Explorers' annual state competition in Palm Beach Gardens. His post won first place overall and he won second place recognition in the expert division of the state pistol competition.

The state competition recognizes explorers for achieving outstanding accomplishments and demonstrating the skills necessary to attain success in law enforcement. Chris attends St. Petersburg Junior College and plans to pursue a career in law enforcement.
