Students invited to enter short story competition

The city of Largo invites Pinellas County fourth- and fifth-grade students to enter its 18th annual short story competition. Fictional stories should be at least two typed, printed or neatly handwritten pages, and must include a story title, the student's name, age, address and phone number and his or her school, teacher and grade.

Entries may be hand-delivered or mailed to Largo Library, 351 East Bay Drive, Largo, 33770, by Saturday. Winners will be notified prior to an awards ceremony Dec. 6.

Canterbury to celebrate performing arts center

The Canterbury School of Florida will host an open house to celebrate the grand opening of its new performing arts center Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the school, 901 58th Avenue NE. Student docents will be on hand to greet guests. Refreshments will be served.

A student performance of Godspell will follow the open house. Tickets, available at the door, are $15 for adults, with reduced prices for children, students and seniors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters searches for little sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas has big sisters who are looking for little sisters.

Big sisters go through a complete background screening before they are matched with children, with whom they meet regularly to share fun and friendship. The organization also provides services and support to families.

The organization invites single parents with daughters in need of attention and support to call 518-8860.

St. Petersburg High to present stage comedy

St. Petersburg High School presents Cash on Delivery, a stage comedy, 7:30 p.m. today through Friday. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students. For information call 893-1842, ext. 1022.
