Bush is easy winner in the schoolhouse

INVERNESS -- If it were up to the young people of Citrus County, George W. Bush would have an easy walk into the presidency.
According to a countywide mock election conducted by the schools with help from the Supervisor of Elections Office and the League of Women Voters, 55.3 percent of the 9,017 students who participated selected Bush.
Gore received 35.2 percent of the vote while Nader earned 3.5 percent.
Statewide, Bush earned 50.5 percent of the student vote, while Gore earned 44.1 percent and Nader 2.3 percent.
Citrus fourth- and fifth-graders also voted on whether to continue the spelling bee at those grades. The final: 1,117-to-338 in favor of retaining the bee.
