A Brooksville man was sentenced to seven years in prison Tuesday for the attempted rape of a 9-year-old girl. John Euclid Scoggins Jr. of 25297 Mondon Hill Road had previously been charged with sexual battery after officials say he repeatedly had sex with the girl in 1994 and 1995. According to a sheriff's report, he asked the girl if she liked to play "games," and after she said yes, he raped her. The charge was reduced to attempted sexual battery as part of a plea deal. In addition to the prison term, Scoggins will spend 23 years on probation, records state.
