Press, son of Charles and Jean Press of St. Petersburg, was promoted to his present rank by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He will begin a four-year teaching assignment at the University of Hawaii. Press lives in Honolulu with his wife, Heather, and his son, Stephen. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Baynard G. Simons, son of Barbara E. and Hobart E. Simons of St. Petersburg, has returned from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. The ship's home port is in Norfolk, Va. Simons' ship visited Croatia, Greece, Israel and Italy, where the sailors participated in community relations projects. A 1994 graduate of Boca Ciega High School, Simons joined the Navy in 1994. U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Michael J. Pittenger, son of Jim and Jan Pittenger of Pinellas Park, was promoted to his present rank while serving as a cryptographic technician supervisor on the USS O'Kane stationed at Pearl Harbor, Honolulu.
