PALM HARBOR -- Ken Peluso held a slim lead over four opponents late Tuesday in a race to replace Palm Harbor Fire Commissioner Ronald Gibson, who died earlier this year.
With a little more than half the precincts counted, Peluso was slightly ahead of George Henry.
The winner will serve the two years left of Gibson's term. Palm Harbor fire commissioners oversee a district that serves about 62,000 people with four stations and a $6.3-million budget.
Peluso was named Palm Harbor citizen of the year in 1998. Henry is a sergeant for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
The other candidates were Arnold Anson, who was on the board previously; Stephanie Sittman, public relations director for Gold's Gym in Palm Harbor; and James Stanton, a Palm Harbor attorney.
