School calendar

Progress reports will be distributed Nov. 15.

Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 22 and 23.

Denham Oaks Elementary: Dad's Club meeting, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the media center.

Lacoochee Elementary: Avon fundraising sale starts Monday.

Lake Myrtle Elementary: Veteran's Day presentation, 10 a.m. Friday.

Land O'Lakes High: An Alcohol and Drug Awareness course will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday for those wanting to receive their restricted driver's licenses. Cost is $25.

Pasco Elementary: Readers Theater Group from Pasco High School performs at 9:30 a.m. today in the multipurpose room for primary students and 10:30 a.m. for intermediate students. Veterans Day Celebration, 2 p.m. Friday under the covered court. Families are invited to attend and bring blankets or lawn chairs. PTC Meeting, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the music room. Invention Fair Family Night, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the multipurpose room. Students and their families are invited to view the inventions. Judging will take place at this time.

Pasco High: Scholarship banquet and awards ceremony, 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Pine View Middle: PTA general meeting, 6:30 tonight. The school's Family Academy presents "Down Memory Lane," 7 to 8 tonight in the Media Center. Parents, grandparents and other relatives are invited to this special evening to learn the value of telling family stories to children. The Peace River Tale Spinners, nationally acclaimed storytellers, will perform at this event.

Quail Hollow Elementary: Book Fair, Parent Night, Career Fair and spaghetti supper, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. NFL Fall Field Day, Nov. 20.

Sand Pine Elementary: McCrane Night, 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hunter's Green McDonald's. ABC Canned Food Drive runs Monday through Nov. 16 in the media center. School social for students in grades three-five, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday. Activities include face painting, music and games.

Wesley Chapel High: The media center will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. Take Your Parent To School Day, Nov. 16.

The Florida Bandmaster Association Marching Music Performance Assessment will start at 4 p.m. Saturday at the River Ridge High School Stadium, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey. Admission is $5 per person. For information call Jon Sever at (727) 774-7384.

Parent information nights for Pasco County's International Baccalaureate Program will be held at the following locations during the next two months. East Pasco: 7 p.m. Tuesday at Centennial Middle School, Dade City. West Pasco: 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at Chasco Middle School, Port Richey, and 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at Gulf Middle School, New Port Richey. Central Pasco: 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Land O'Lakes High, Land O'Lakes. Applications may be picked up at any of these meetings or from guidance counselors at any Pasco County middle school. Completed applications are due to Land O'Lakes High on or before Jan. 11. A writing sample will be given at Land O'Lakes High from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Jan. 26. Time is running short for students to apply for the 2002 St. Petersburg Times Scholarship worth up to $60,000 over four years. The application deadline is Nov. 16. The scholarship is open to high school seniors in public, private and parochial schools in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties. Applications are available through high school guidance counselors, at offices of the St. Petersburg Times and by mail. The application also may be downloaded from the Times' Web site at www.sptimes.com/scholarships. Applications must be mailed to R&R Education Consultants, P.O. Box 250861, New York, NY 10025. In March, four college-bound students will be selected to receive up to $15,000 per year for four years at accredited colleges of their choice. Selection is based on scholastic achievement, financial need and having overcome significant obstacles to achieve academic success. Jeff Miller, a teacher at Gulf High School, will present a slide show consisting of early pictures of western Pasco County at the Pasco County Historical Society meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 at the American Legion Hall, 37745 Church Ave., Dade City. Miller maintains the school's Web site, which includes historical information about western Pasco county as well as more than 800 photographs depicting early settlers, homes and commercial buildings, and old maps of Pasco County. The program will include a covered-dish dinner. Please bring a dish to share, as well as your own table service and drink. Election of officers for 2002 will also take place at this meeting. The Gulf High School Web site is www.gulfhigh.org and the history section can be accessed directly at fivay.org. The slide show will include many of the photos on the Web site.
