Coming to America

Joanna Sycz and Dan Matisa play immigrants Leah and Haskell Harelik, who settle in small-town Texas in 1909 in The Immigrant by Mark Harelik. The play, directed by Gil Lazier, opens Friday and continues through Dec. 2 at American Stage in St. Petersburg. Playwright Harelik, who played his grandfather in the premiere of the play in 1985, wrote it to explore his Russian-Jewish roots. Says Lazier, "The Immigrant is is a very sweet play about assimilation in America." Tickets: $20-$30. (727) 823-7529.
