CPR, first aid classes offered

Prevention Priority will offer a CPR/choking rescue class from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at AutoWay Dealership on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Interstate 75 in Brandon. The class will be taught by critical care registered nurses. Also, first aid and emergency response skills for the lay person will be offered from 4 to 8 p.m. Topics covered will include trauma, burns, poisoning, insect stings, snake bites, and health and safety issues around the home and car. Veterans tribute set for Saturday

The premier 20-piece Sun City Center Big Band will present a musical salute at a Veteran's Day celebration at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Veterans of the Korean War Theater of Operations will be the honored guests. The tribute also will feature guest speaker Alexander P. McMillan, retired brigadier general, U.S. Marine Corps. The event, sponsored by the combined military organizations of Sun City Center, will be held at Community Hall, 1910 S Pebble Beach Blvd. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. Walgreens ride orientation set

The Tampa AIDS Network will have an orientation session for people interested in participating in the Walgreens Red Ribbon Ride 2001 set for March 30 through April 1. A meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday (call for location and to RSVP) and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the TAN north Tampa office, 7402 N 56th St., Building 100, in Temple Terrace. Orientations will be held each month until the event. The Red Ribbon Ride is presented by and benefits the six organizations of the Florida AIDS Consortium. Church hosts holiday bazaar, dinner

Seminole Heights United Methodist Church, 6111 Central Ave., will host a Holiday Bazaar and Dinner. The bazaar will run from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday featuring crafts, bakery, plants, afghans and holiday items. Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and will include pork roast, yellow rice, red beans, Cuban bread, tea and dessert. The cost is $5 for adults, $3.50 for children. Art center to hold membership meeting

Old Hyde Park Art Center, 705 Swann Ave., will have its general membership meeting at 7 p.m. tonight. Also, a program will be presented by award-winning instructor Taylor Ikin. Ikin, featured in an article in the March 2000 issue of American Artist magazine, will give a demonstration of her unique watercolors. The event is free and open to the public. Car seat safety checks on tap

Tampa Children's Hospital's Child Advocacy Department will conduct car seat safety checks at the following locations: noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Ferman, 1307 W Kennedy Blvd., and 10 a.m. to noon at New Tampa's Women's Club, 18715 Bent Tree Lane. Car seats will be checked to see whether they are installed correctly. When used properly, car seats and safety belts reduce the risk of infant death by as much as 71 percent. Hospital foundation to host gala

Tampa General Hospital Foundation will host its annual black tie gala, 2000 Moments in Time, at Vandenberg Airport, 6582 Eureka Springs Road. The theme of the event is "Remembering World War II-America's Victory." The honorary chair is retired U.S. Rep. Sam M. Gibbons. The fundraiser will begin with cocktails and a raffle at 7 p.m. Saturday followed by dinner at 8 p.m. The attire is black tie, military or vintage period dress. The cost is $250 per person. Proceeds will benefit the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit. The event coincides with the premiere of the new hangar at Vandenberg Airport. The presenting partner is Leading Edge Aviation. Temple Terrace

Arts festival set this weekend

The 27th annual Temple Terrace Community Arts Festival will be held from 10 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Riverhills Park, 405 Riverhills Drive. The free event will include more than 150 artists participating featuring fine arts and crafts, food, and entertainment. Nine local schools will display artwork in the Fresh Views area all day, both days. In addition, there will be a children's art area with free hands-on projects reflecting the Hispanic heritage of our community. For information, call Mary Jane at (813) 985-8394.
