The Friends of the Arts Festival brings together art and business in an unusual way. The Architectural Design Center, which features the products and services of home building and remodeling companies in the bay area, joined with the Pinellas County Arts Council to provide a new forum for local artists.
The show features nine local art guilds, each of which has selected five artists to represent them in the show. With one piece from each artist, that makes for a total of 45 works. And since they'll be shown on easels, viewers can get up close to the work.
"It will be the most unusual art show you've ever seen," said Ruth Lambert, the event coordinator. "It is good for the community, good for the center and good for the Arts Council to host this show.
"People will be able to see the art close up on the easels. Artists, for their part, will get to meet and sell their artwork to the community, give out cards, biographies or anything else that they feel will promote themselves and their guilds. It's a very exciting concept."
Prominent local watercolorist Bill Renc, known for the "Floridiana" themes he utilizes in his works, is the show's featured artist.
The nine participating art guilds are the St. Pete Beach Art Institute (formerly known as the Suntan Art Center), Creative Artists' Guild, Tarpon Springs Art Association, Studio 1212, Beach Art Center, Gulfport Arts Council, TESA, Clearwater's Creative Artists League and Fu Sang Artists' Guild.
