TAMPA -- The Bulls volleyball team was a hit on last weekend's road trip, posting wins at Memphis, Southeast Missouri and Saint Louis to extend USF's winning streak to seven matches.
Along the way, USF improved to 19-7 overall and 11-3 in Conference USA and leapfrogged into third place. The Bulls have also won their seven consecutive matches in sweeps, setting a school record. And in league play, the Bulls have won eight consecutive matches, not losing since a match Oct. 7 against Louisville.
The last lost not in conference came Oct. 21 against Alabama.
In defeating Saint Louis (30-24, 32-30, 30-26), Southeast Missouri (30-20, 30-27, 30-22) and Memphis (30-19, 30-17, 30-10) the Bulls got 36 kills and 33 digs from junior outside hitter Michelle Collier. With last weekend's performance, Collier became the first USF player to reach the 2,000-kill career plateau.
Other solid performances during the weekend came from Bonnye Glover, who had 15 kills, and Jolene Patton, who had 10 kills and three blocks against Southeast Missouri.
The Bulls host Southern Mississippi today and Tulane on Sunday before playing at the C-USA tournament Nov. 14 in Houston.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Bulls suffered a 3-1 loss to Alabama-Birmingham last Friday to end the regular season at 4-13-2 overall and 1-8-1 in C-USA play.
The Bulls, who were 4-4-2 at one point this season, dropped their last nine matches to set a school record for consecutive losses.
The Bulls, who didn't qualify for the conference tournament, got their lone goal against the Blazers from Rachel Thjmoe on an assist from Stine Hagh.
Goalkeeper Breck Bankester posted eight saves, giving her 28 during the Bulls' last three matches.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Bulls received votes in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 coaches preseason poll. USF, which received four votes, checked in at No. 47.
The Bulls begin the regular season Nov. 19 at the Sun Dome against Fordham.
