INVERNESS -- On Saturday, Citrus County honors its military veterans with the annual Veterans Day Parade in Inverness. The theme this year is "Citrus County's 50th Anniversary Salute to Korean War Veterans."

The parade starts at 10 a.m. at Citrus High School and will proceed along West Main Street to North Pine Avenue to Courthouse Square and end at the corner of Apopka Avenue and Martin Luther King Avenue. The parade's grand marshal is Lt. Gen. Lawrence F. Snowden, USMC-retired.

The parade, which has become popular over the years, is the highlight but not the only event of the eighth annual Veterans Appreciation Week. Other scheduled events include:

Today: A memorial honoring all veterans who served during World War II will be dedicated at Fountains Memorial Park, 5635 West Green Acres St., in Homosassa. The public is invited. The Citrus High School Marching Band will play.

Today: American Legion Post 155, 6585 W. Gulf to Lake Highway (State Road 44) in Crystal River, will sponsor a veterans fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $5.

Saturday: A Veterans Day service will be held at the Old Courthouse immediately following the Veterans Day parade. Special dignitaries and speakers will be on hand as well as the Citrus Community Band and VFW Post 4252, which will provide a firing salute.

Saturday: Following the memorial service, VFW Post 4337 in Inverness will host a reception for veterans and visiting dignitaries.
