TAMPA -- Sophomore Fany Schaeffer shot a final-round 73 at the Pine Needles Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C., and took home medalist honors with a 54-hole 3-over-par 216 to lead USF to a second-place finish at the Pine Needles Collegiate.

USF entered the final round tied with Alabama for the lead, but Michigan State slipped past both leaders with a final-round 288 to finish at 890, three strokes better than second-place USF.

The Bulls had been trying for back-to-back team wins following a championship in the Beacon Woods Invitational three weeks ago. For Schaeffer, the victory comes after a fall in which she finished in the top 10 just once while placing 20th and 21st in two other tournaments. The win marked the fifth time this season a USF golfer finished in the top 10. Kelly Lagedrost and Jill Crowe finished the three-day event at 226 and 227, respectively, while Kelly Martin and Jessica Hayes shot 230.

The Pine Needles event closes USF's fall season.

MEN'S SOCCER: The Bulls ended their regular season Nov. 3 with a 4-3 loss to 23rd-ranked Saint Louis.

The Billikens scored two unanswered goals in the final 16 minutes to secure the win. Jack Jewsbury netted a hat trick for the Billikens. With the loss, the Bulls will not advance to the C-USA Tournament.

Saint Louis got on the board first with a goal by Jewsbury off an assist from Brad Davis at 13:54. USF tied it in the 38th minute on a goal by Ryan Anatol from Ryan Beaudoin and then took a 2-1 lead when Greg Krauss tallied a goal just over 11 minutes into the second half off an assist from Anatol.

But Jewsbury scored his second goal in the 61st minute to tie the game again. Jeff Thwaites then put the Bulls up for the final time in the 73rd minute before Davis' next score and Jewsbury's eventual game-winner.

The victory earned the Billikens their first outright Conference USA regular-season championship.

Saint Louis shared the title with Alabama-Birmingham last season and with USF in 1998. USF ends their season at 10-9 overall and 3-5 in league play.

BASKETBALL: The men's team tip off their exhibition season at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Sun Dome against the Grand Rapid Hoops team. The women, meanwhile, continue their preseason, hosting the Oklahoma Flyers AAU team at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Corral.
