TAMPA -- Junior cross country runner Tracy Buxton closed the season in strong fashion Nov. 4 at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet in Jacksonville. She took eighth in 23 minutes, 26 seconds to place as the top finisher among Sunshine State Conference runners.

The showing also earned Buxton All-South honors and SSC Female Runner of the Week honors. Buxton's performance helped the Spartans place 13th out of 20 teams.

On the men's side, UT was 15th among 19 schools and led by Jamal Razavian's 36:08 and Doane Greenidge's 37:08. Harding (Ark.) won the men's race, followed by Kennesaw State. Among the women, West Georgia was first followed by Harding.

The Spartans closed the season with third-place finishes in the SSC (men and women), all-conference runners in Buxton (first team) and Greenidge (second team) and two men's meet victories and two individual firsts and a second from Buxton.

VOLLEYBALL: Freshman Sandi Fox earned conference player of the week honors after a .360 attack percentage, an average of 4.86 kills and 43 blocks in seven matches last week. But she might have saved her best for Saturday's key match against No. 16 Barry. Fox, an outside hitter, had 24 kills and 11 digs as the No. 8 Spartans beat their rivals 3-1.

UT followed that with a sweep Tuesday at No. 23 North Florida and end the season this weekend against Florida Tech and Rollins. The Barry win all but guarantees UT its fifth consecutive conference title and leaves the Spartans ranked first in the South Region and the likely host for the NCAA South Region tournament beginning Nov. 17.

MEN'S SOCCER: The Spartans closed the regular season Saturday with a 5-0 win over Florida Tech. Kareem Escayg scored twice and Mehran Mostifavifar, Ryan Godfrey and Erol Belli added goals as UT finished the season 14-4 overall and 5-2 in Sunshine State Conference play.

The finish pushed UT into a tie for second with Lynn and a game behind regular-season champ Barry. But UT failed to receive an NCAA bid and ended the year ranked fourth in the South Region and 25th nationally.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: UT ended its season with a 3-0 loss to No. 9 Lynn. Still, UT's 12-8 record and 3-3 conference mark gave it a fourth-place league finish, and its overall win total was third-most among SSC schools. Spartans midfielder Tai Kirklin finished with 21 goals and six assists for 48 points to rank fourth in the conference.
